THE NAME BEHIND THE COLLECTION

Cangjie

The legendary historian and creator of Chinese writing

Cangjie is revered as Huangdi (the Yellow Emperor, a legendary sovereign in Chinese history and mythology)'s official historian, an ancestor of Chinese writing and the God of Writing in Daoist tradition. Legends describe his work organizing written characters and his extraordinary perception; another tradition presents him as the ruler Cangdi.

These characters explore pictures, visual relationships, combined elements, and links between meaning and sound. Their histories are more varied than a picture simply becoming a symbol.

If Cangjie has helped you discover something new, a tip is a lovely way to support the project. Every contribution, however small, is greatly appreciated.
